PEACE
OF CAKE 2006 - THANK YOU!
|
PEACE of Cake 2006 has wrapped up
another year with bows and ribbons and holiday cheer. Thank
you to all the many volunteers from George Brown College,
the Canadian Armed Forces and others who joined with their
families to help bake and package the holiday baskets. This
past weekend was the biggest PEACE of Cake event yet with
1500 PEACE baskets delivered to the Vets at Sunnybrook Hospital,
Yonge Street Mission, Pathways to Education and the Salvation
Army. With more helpers than ever before, more baskets to
fill and more laughter to be shared it was a definitely a
weekend to remember. Please take a minute to look at all
the pictures and we hope you can join us again in 2007 for
the 5th year of PEACE of Cake.

Federal
Government eliminates capital gains tax on donation
of shares
|
George
Brown College Foundation applauds the Federal Government's
move on May 2, 2006 to eliminate capital
gains tax on gifts of appreciated securities. Effective
immediately, gifts of shares to registered charities will
enjoy complete capital gains relief, meaning donors will
get the same benefits from giving shares as from giving
cash without paying capital gains tax on the growth of
these securities.
Leaders in the charitable sector agree
this provision will boost philanthropic giving in Canada,
enhance the vitality of the voluntary sector, and positively
affect the lives of all Canadians. The Association of Fundraising
Professionals predicts the change could result in increases
of donations in as much as hundreds of millions of dollars
annually.
A gift of appreciated shares allows
you to make a meaningful contribution to a worthy cause,
enhancing higher education. At the same time, you'll save
the tax on capital gains and receive a tax credit through
the charitable receipt for your gift. Please contact Cathy
Callaghan at 416-415-5000 ext. 2063 or ccallagh@gbrownc.on.ca if
you would like to make a gift of securities to George
Brown College Foundation.

A
Volunteering Effort of GBC students and staff for
Native Men's Residence - Outreach Program
|
 |
Hello everyone!
I am Vikas Verma,
a graduate of the Marketing Management - Financial Services
Postgraduate Certificate Program at George Brown College.
|
I graduated after completing
my Coop Work Term at the United Way of Greater Toronto as
a Sponsored Employee. It was a wonderful experience studying
at George Brown College. The Financial Services program gave
me insight into how the Canadian Financial Markets operate
and helped to sharpen the marketing skills I will need to
excel in this field. George Brown is a great place to learn
and meet students from different cultures. After working
at the United Way, I took it upon myself to organize a
volunteering effort of GBC students and staff for Native
Men's Residence - Outreach Program...
