New
VoIP Specialization in the Wireless Networking Program
(T411), September 16, 2005
|
The Faculty
of Technology, IT Department just launched the new
VoIP specialization in the Wireless Networking program.
VoIP is the forth option available now to our students
in the third semester of this program. This specialization
was created based on the feedback from our industry partners.
Detailed course outlines now available under option
4, semester 3 of T401 courses.
VoIP solutions can be demonstrated
and tested in the VoIP Lab. The layout of the lab enables
the student fo create various configurations to study their
effects on quality of service and other service parameters.
Courses taught by an expert instructor
with multiple industry certifications in VoIP field.
"Voice over IP (VoIP) technology
has transformed the telecom industry! Where once we had
double and triple long distance rates, this inexpensive
technology in the late 90's has lowered rates down to
single digits and in even some cases free. As a pioneer
in this technology space, I see a bright future for it.
Coupled with wireless technologies, the mobile carriers
have some creative opportunities. The possibilities are
only as big as our imagination!"

Beauchamp, President, Networking Minds

A
Piercing Tradition. Only rings surpass earrings in sales, by
Elvira Cordileone, Toronto Star, November 24, 2005
|
'Flower-power things' are
hot
Why would 17th-century Dutch artist
Jan Vermeer dangle a single gigantic pearl from his model's
left ear in his acclaimed Girl with a Pearl Earring?
The light dancing on the surface of
the pendulous gem pulls the viewer's eye and directs attention
to the pretty line of the girl's jaw and the sensuality
of her plump, slightly parted pink lips.
"The ear is a very powerful canvas," says
Martha Glenny, jewellery school co-ordinator at George Brown College. "And earrings are a generous
embellishment, creating sensation for both wearer and viewer."

 STEVE

Anne Sado holds up an entrée in the kitchen of
a restaurant run by the college's hospitality school.
What do you say about a young woman
so not intimidated by men - she was one of a few females
among 500 U of T engineering students back in the unruly
1970s - that she was elected president of her graduating
class.
And treasurer of the engineering society.
But if anyone was surprised by the

Cheng grew up in New York City, San Francisco and Toronto.
Though he moved around quite a bit, two things have been
constant in Vicky's life: His love for food and his love

From age seven, Vicky was
convinced that cooking is a noble calling. "While everyone
was watching the Simpsons," he says, "I was watching
the food channel."
Vicky has worked at L'Auberge

|
By J. M. Barrie
Directed by Todd Hammond
April 13, 15, 19, 21, & 23 - 8:00 pm
Sat., April 16 - 2:00 pm
Mr. Lob has invited a group of world-weary
people to his Edwardian country estate for midsummer night's
eve where it's rumoured magical things happen in the woods

MARRIAGE
A LA MODE at George Brown THEATRE
|
By John Dryden
Directed by Paul Lampert
April 12, 14, 16, 20, 22 - 8:00 pm
Sat., April 23 - 2:00 pm
"He's in love with her, but she's
in love with him, who in turn is in love with..." In
this wild and witty comedy, the great Restoration playwright
John Dryden unleashes a hilarious attack on marital convention,
while examining the true (yet murky) nature of desire.
Lusty and literate, Marriage A La Mode is
a rarely seen masterwork from one of the eras great writers.

PROJECTS SHINE
George Brown ingenuity on display
By RADHIKA PANJWANI, TORONTO SUN, April 6, 2005
|
A SHINY red tool box is mounted on
what appears to be a mini golf cart with an adjustable seat.
A video display lets technicians peer into hard-to-get-at
places. The seat can position workers at just the right height.
The "automated tool box," the
brainchild of George Brown College's Kris Dutkiewicz, Harjinder
Verdi, and Thanh Truoung, was
one of the exhibits students showed off at the Technology
in the City fair yesterday at the Casa Loma campus
off Davenport Rd. Dutkiewicz came up with the idea after
watching his dad, an electrician with arthritis, struggle
to lug his heavy tool box.
"I saw my dad kneel down on the
floor one day and it was torture," he said. [Read

|
By Federico Garcia
Lorca
Directed by Richard Rose
February 9-19, 2005
Yerma - a woman in a traditional Spanish
village - aches to be a mother, just like all the other

shuns her embrace. In this play Lorca creates a deeply
moving portrait of a woman racked by a desire so intense
it explodes in a final act of absolute despair.
