Student success in college requires well developed learning skills and attitudes (such as being able to work independently, participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic achievement. Applicants should have thoroughly developed these skills and attitudes before beginning their college programs.

Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three years of previous dance training in jazz, hip hop or musical theatre. Applicants must attend an audition and interview.

OUR PROGRAM

The intensive three-semester structure of Commercial Dance Studies allows for a high level of specialized Jazz Dance training alongside a great diversity of Hip Hop styles and complementary dance techniques. With a core faculty comprised of working dance professionals, students are exposed to current practices and expectations within an ever-evolving industry. Commercial Dance Studies offers courses in Jazz Dance, Hip Hop, Classical Ballet, Musical Theatre repertoire, acting and vocal singing. Unique to George Brown Dance is the combination of strong professional dance standards with the benefit of a full post-secondary experience.

STUDENT SELECTION

Students auditioning for Commercial Dance Studies should have a minimum of five years training in Jazz Dance; training in additional dance forms is an asset.

YOUR CAREER

Successful completion of this program will provide students with the fundamentals to pursue a career in commercial dance, such as music videos, touring with recording artists, and musical theatre, cruise ship, resort and industrial productions.
