Student success in college requires well developed learning skills and attitudes (such as being able to work independently,
participate in a team, be well-organized, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic
achievement. Applicants should have thoroughly developed these skills and attitudes before beginning their college programs.

OUR PROGRAM
Dental technologists make a major contribution to the practice of dentistry. These dental workers fabricate all the various appliances used by dentists in the treatment of patients. Dental technologists fabricate orthodontic appliances, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns and bridges from a dentist’s prescription. The technologist may also produce specialty items such as surgical splints and sports mouthguards, as well as implant-related restorations.
Students are taught to standards set out in the College of Dental Technologists of Ontario pamphlet “General Statement of Required Competencies for Entry to the Dental Technology Profession.”
The teaching program is highly project-oriented. Students learn to work in an interprofessional learning environment fostering interprofessional skills.
Note: Students must meet all medical and legal requirements for this program outlined on the Pre-Placement Health Form. This may take 6 to 8 weeks. To see those requirements go to georgebrown.ca/preplacement. Students who are unable to meet these requirements will be unable to complete the program.
This program is unique in Ontario.

YOUR CAREER
After one year of work experience (1,950 hours) under the supervision of a registered dental technologist or a dentist, graduates are eligible to apply to sit the registration exam. Upon passing, graduates are able to open their own dental laboratory or supervise an existing laboratory. Graduates may also find employment as technicians in dental labs and dentists’ offices, or as sales representatives with dental supply companies.
