Student success in college requires well developed learning skills and attitudes (such as being able to work independently,
participate in a team, be well-organised, develop good work habits, and show initiative). These skills are as important as prior academic
achievement. Applicants should have thoroughly developed these skills and attitudes before beginning their college programs.

The Fashion Management program at George Brown College focuses on what we call "the four Ms" - Marketing, Merchandising, Manufacturing and Management - as they apply to the fashion industry generally and to apparel specifically.
Students are introduced to the concepts of developing, producing and marketing a product, from initial concept to retail sale. Students
analyze and test garments in our textile lab, create private-label fashion lines on storyboards, examine and choose the most effective and
efficient manufacturing processes, and assess essential marketing and merchandising principles. Students also obtain first-hand experience
in the student-operated fashion store on campus.
The hands-on components of the different disciplines allow students to integrate the various courses into a complete experience, from initial
design concept to consumer purchase. This involves courses in business theory and principles, management and computer studies. The structure
of this program gives students the utmost flexibility in their choice of a career path. Students will also gain relevant industry knowledge
through practical work experience after their first year of study. Placement may be in fashion manufacturing, distribution, retailing or
any related marketing area. Special industry awards are presented each year.
Career
Prospects
The Fashion Management program has generated a varied and adaptable workforce over the past 25 years for the apparel and sewn products industry.
Graduates have been employed by apparel manufacturers, designers, wholesalers, importers and many of the major and independent retailers;
some graduates have become entrepreneurs. Graduates are employed in positions leading to careers as product developers, fashion buyers, production
managers, quality control managers, costing analysts, work measurement engineers, purchasing agents, visual merchandisers, store managers
and transportation/distribution managers.
Patricia
Chung (Graduated in 2003)
"I came to the Fashion
Management program at George Brown College having already
completed a four-year university degree in Business Administration.
The Fashion Management
program which includes participation in the College Creations
and an Industry Internship has genuinely challenged me
for the first time in all of my previous educational endeavours. I
am convinced that this program has prepared me well for
a management career in the fashion industry."
