First George Brown College residence opening Fall 2016

Plans are underway for the new downtown residence building to accommodate 500 students.

Being located in downtown Toronto provides George Brown College students with unique educational and cultural opportunities. In our commitment to continually improve the quality of student life at the college we are opening our first student residence in the heart of the city.

An 8-storey building in the Pan Am Games Village will be built to our specifications as a modern 500-bed, accessible facility meeting LEED Gold environmental standards. Student suites will be 2-bedroom units with kitchenettes, washrooms, common rooms and study spaces, with state-of-the-art telecommunications built in. Other features include a security system with card access, full accessibility including washrooms, social spaces, laundry facilities and extensive bicycle storage.

The residence will be located on the northeast corner of Front and Cherry streets, making it accessible to both our St. James and Waterfront campuses. The Pan Am site will serve 10,000 athletes in Toronto for the 2015 games before being converted for a variety of new uses – including our residence – the following year.

This milestone is part of our goal to ensure George Brown students receive a high-quality college experience inside and outside the classroom.
