Equity Poster Designer & Design
Nik Szymanis, a 3rd year
Advertising and Graphic Design student designed the winning
equity poster. He was one of 350 students from this program
within the Faculty of Business and Creative Arts at George Brown
College who competed in this competition.
In the poster he has created a pattern of interconnecting or overlapping
circles of different colours - yellow, red, green, blue, white,
brown, - and different sizes. He felt that this best represented
diversity. He played around with the idea of continuity and fit
with the College's goals. In trying to determine how to symbolize
this in his design, he decided that colours were a universal representation
of diversity and that circles showed continuity and flow. He used
the different sizes, colours and interconnections to bring his design
together. With a touch of humour, he also played on the College's
name - George Brown to link the colours that he choose for the design.
The text reflects the equity statement, which is found on all course
outlines for College programs. In the overall theme for the poster,
Mr. Szymanis captures a simple yet profound thought Equity,
Unity, Progress.
Our thanks to Mr. Nik Szymanis, for his
creative achievement and the work of all the 3rd year Advertising
and Graphic Design students and Faculty of the School of Graphic
Communication for their participation and contributions to the College's
equity initiatives.
The Equity Poster
Plans are underway to make the College's Equity Poster available
in various formats - posters (mounted and unmounted), post cards
for display in our hallways, classrooms, offices and for general
distribution.
